Jermaine Seoposenwe sets new Mexican Liga MX Femenil record
Banyana Banyana star forward Jermaine Seoposenwe has set a new record in the Mexican Liga MX Femenil after scoring the quickest goal in the league’s history.
Seoposenwe opened the scoring in just nine seconds for her new side FC Juárez. The lethal goal poacher did not stop there as she completed her brace in the 54th minute of the showdown to help her side secure a 3-0 win over Centellas Club Necaxa on Monday.
The Cape Town-born was named the Player of the Match following her stellar performance on the day.
Overall, the 28-year-old footballer has banged four goals for the Mexican side since her arrival at the club last month after parting ways with Portugal’s SC Braga.
Following the move, she had set her sight on achieving the goals the team has set and one can finally say that she is delivering on her promises.
As things stand, Juarez currently sit 11th on the table with seven points from 14 outings. With someone of Seoposenwe’s calibre, the club will be hoping to climb up the log standings and challenge for some silverware.
THE BANYANA STAR KEEPS ON SHINNING
The ex-Real Betis frontwoman made the headlines back in October 2015 when she scored the winning goal against Equatorial Guinea which secured Banyana’s qualification to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she went on start all three of South Africa’s matches as they exited at the Group Stage of the tournament.
She was a key player for South Africa at the 2018 CAF Africa Women Cup of Nations with Banyana reaching the final only to lose to Nigeria in a penalty shootout. The result saw South Africa qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time ever.
Seoposenwe was part of the 23-woman squad that participated in the 2019 Women’s World Cup held in France. At the tournament, she featured in matches with China and Spain.
With the weight of Banyana’s attacking options resting largely on Seoposenwe’s shoulders in the absence of the injured Thembi Kgatla at the 2022 WAFCON competition, South Africa benefitted from the former Gintra Universitetas star’s in-form which saw South Africa clinch the WAFCON title for the first time in the history.
Now, Seoposenwe aims to improve and step up her game as she is gunning for a spot in the Banyana squad that will be parting in the World Cup next year, as her reintroduction to the Banyana squad has proven to be key in adding more goals to Desiree Ellis’ side.
