Jessica Motaung’s expectations from CAF ahead of Women’s World Cup

Kaizer Chiefs‘ Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung has revealed her expectations from the Confederation of African Football [CAF] ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Motaung is banking on CAF to help the four African nations that have qualified for the Women’s World Cup. 

In May this year, Motaung was elected as the CAF’s Organising Committee for Women Football Standing Committee till the year 2024.

The four countries that have booked their place at the 2023 showpiece are South Africa, Zambia, Morocco and Nigeria. 

South Africa secured a place in the World final following their successful Africa Women’s Cup of Nations [WAFCON] in Morocco.

The World Cup is due be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand next year.

Banyana Banyana went on to win their first-ever WAFCON title as they defeated the hosts Morocco 2-1 in the final.  

At the World Cup, Desiree Ellis’ charges are pitted in Group G alongside Sweden, Italy and Argentina. 

It will be Banyana’s second World Cup appearance.

JESSICA MOTAUNG’S EXPECTATIONS… 

“My expectations are high looking at what has been achieved in the men’s World Cup and to see what can be done for women,” said Motaung.

“With the main focus on creating more competitions, investments in camps and training opportunities.

“I’m actually excited because I know what Desiree [Ellis] has planned for Banyana Banyana.

“And looking at investments, what can be done for the other nations like Morocco, Zambia and Nigeria for the World Cup.”

The eagerly-awaited ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup will commence on July 20 to August 20, 2023. 

This will be the first time that the tournament consists of 32 teams.

The first edition of the Women’s World Cup had only 12 countries.
