Mamelodi Sundowns players win big at SA Sports Awards
Two Mamelodi Sundowns players won big at the SA Sports Awards that took place on Saturday night at Sun City in the North West.
Themba Zwane of Bafana Ba Style and Andile Dlamini of Sundowns Ladies made headlines in what was the 16th edition of the ceremony.
The goalkeeper Dlamini walked away with the main award of the night, the Sports Star of the Year award and also took home R500 000.
‘Sticks’, as she’s well-known had yet another delightful year after she played an integral role when Banyana Banyana won WAFCON in Morocco. After the tournament, she scooped the Golden Glove following the three clean sheets she kept in six games.
At the club level, she helped her side win the Hollywoodbets Super League. She was also instrumental when Banyana Ba Style finished second in the CAF Women’s Champions League that was staged in Morocco.
Meanwhile, Zwane scooped People’s Choice Award accompanied by R500 000 prize money.
‘Mshishi’ played a major role in helping Sundowns complete the treble last season. Subsequently, he was nominated for the Midfielder of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season Awards.
With his consistent and impressive performances, Zwane got his first Bafana Bafana call-up from Hugo Broos who took over as the national team head coach in 2021.
