Romain Folz: ‘If I go too far, I’ll be sanctioned’

"That's not the point, I think I'm allowed to say when something is not right."

AmaZulu FC head coach Romain Folz says it can take him an hour to list the referees’ mistakes that have happened since he arrived.

He said this after AmaZulu secured a 3-2 triumph over Tornado FC in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 on Sunday at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Despite a win, Folz was left fuming at the officials, saying they allowed an offside goal against his side.

Folz stated he wasn’t only pointing fingers at the referee who was officiating on Sunday but the whole refereeing since he took over at DStv Premiership side AmaZulu.

AMAZULU COACH ROMAIN FOLZ ON REFEREE’S MISTAKES

“I’m 100 percent sure of the offside, one of the two goals is invalid,” he told the media in the press conference.

“Don’t you feel like we’re having the same chat after every game? I always say the same thing and people tend to think we say that because we drew or we lose or whatever. We won today alright? I say the same thing, it [officiating] was bad.

“You know how many free-kicks they had in the second half? 17, you know how many we have? Four.

“I’d like someone to tell me what’s happening and I’m gonna leave it like that. I’m gonna say one thing, I hope that for the next games, league and cup, I hope the game is a topic of discussion after the game.

“I invite everyone to watch the games and get back to the words I said right now. I’m not pointing fingers at this referee in particular right now.

“I’m saying if someone can come here and tell me that the last ten minutes of the game, those events that happened are fair. I think there’s a problem.

“Again, I don’t want my words to be misinterpreted. I’m not insulting anyone, I’m not saying he’s against us in particular.

“I’m saying it wasn’t a good performance as a referee as much as we don’t do everything perfectly.

“We missed a lot of chances, we could have scored 12.

“There’s only that much that you can control but that I can not control, what do you want me to say to my players if the guy is ten yards offside?”

‘IF I GO TOO FAR, I’LL GET SANCTIONED’

The French-Moroccan coach went on to add that he’s aware that if he goes too far, complaining about the referees, he’ll be charged by the league.

“I’m pretty sure that I take time, I can make you a compilation of an hour of referees’ mistakes since I arrived,” he added.

“Again, I know that if I too far in my speech, I’ll get sanctioned.

“That’s not the point, I think I’m allowed to say when something is not right.”
