Rulani Mokwena on Makgalwa and Mkhuma’s futures at Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has weighed in on the futures of the club loanees Keletso Makgalwa and Promise Mkhuma at Chloorkop.

The academy graduates are currently with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side All-Stars after joining in January.

This was after Makgalwa’s loan spell with TS Galaxy was unsuccessful as he only amassed five appearances. He had signed for the Rockets at the beginning of the current season.

Meanwhile, Mkhuma was expected to join Swallows earlier this season but the Birds were slapped with a FIFA sanction in September and couldn’t register the winger.

He then returned to Masandawana before he was sent out on loan to All-Stars along with Makgalwa.

Mokwena says he is still uncertain about what is going to transpire when the academy graduates return to Chloorkop in July.

He says he has been in touch with the All-Stars coach Sinethemba Badela almost on a day-to-day basis in assessing the duo.

“They come from the academy and we love them,” Mokwena said.

“And that is one coach [Sinethemba Badla] I speak to everyday. Coach Themba is the one coach that I speak to the most.

“One of the reasons why they went there is because I knew he would take good care of them. And that’s what he has done.

“We will see [on whether we keep them]. I’m not so sure because I don’t know.

“The immediate focus now is Marumo Gallants [on Saturday, 06 May], it’s gonna be a tough game. So, that’s my full focus.”

OTHER LOANEES

Besides Makgalwa and Mkhuma, Mokwena and Co have to make big decisions on whether to keep or loan some of the other loanees who will return in July.

They have Devine Lunga [Golden Arrows], Lyle Lakay [Cape Town City] and Siyanda Msani [Richards Bay FC] who all play the left-back position.

It’s unlikely for all three of them to be at Chloorkop next season with Terrence Mashego, Sifiso Ngobeni and Aubrey Modiba [all with Downs] competing for the same position.

Grant Margeman who signed a one-year and an option to extend for a further year with SuperSport United is reportedly wanted back by Bafana Ba Style. It’s not surprising as he’s been influential in the midfield for Gavin Hunt’s men.

Meanwhile, at Sekhukhune United, Sundowns have midfielder Sammy Seabi and right-back Nyiko Mobbie.

Luvuyo Phewa [Cape Town Spurs] and Siphesihle Mkhize [Chippa United] will also learn their fate when the new campaign begins.

Lastly, goalkeeper Jody February [AmaZulu] is likely to return if one between Kennedy Mweene [38], who’s now a player-coach, and Denis Onyango [37], decides to retire.
