The ABC Motsepe League never ends without some sort of drama or shenanigans as teams will do everything in their power to gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
This time around, in the SAFA Mpumalanga, there was a protest launched by Secunda M Stars against NPC Sivutsa in Stream A of the provincial ABC League.
The issue was about the temporary Identity document that was used by the goalkeeper of arch-rivals Sivutsa, this is according to Fernie Battalions, who were declared Stream A winners before the case was resolved.
Secunda lost the protest but went on to appeal the decision at the SAFA national office and they won the appeal.
SECUNDA M STARS LEAPFROG FERNIE BATTALIONS
As a result, Secunda were awarded three points and eventually, they declared Stream A champions with 34 points, one point ahead of the now second-placed Battalions.
Therefore, Secunda will face Stream B winners Mlambo Royal Cubs in the Provincial Playoffs.
The provincial playoff match between the two sides will determine who will represent the Mpumalanga in the National Playoffs.
SAFA MPUMALANGA CONGRATULATES BOTH TEAMS
Meanwhile, SAFA Mpumalanga congratulatulated the stream winners and wished them well ahead of the Provincial Playoffs.
“On behalf of SAFA Mpumalanga provincial chairperson Mr Litheko Marago and his provincial executive committee, I would like to congratulate you both for being the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League 2022/23 Stream A and B winners,” read the statement.
“Both your teams showed strength and character during the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League season. And as much as we currently do not know the team will ultimately be declared our outright winner for this season.
“We pride ourselves with the level of competitiveness shown by both teams. We can only wish that the best-prepared team be our outright winner.”
