Ugandan team courts Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena will visit Uganda this week at the invitation of the East African country’s top-tier league side KCCA FC.
KFCCA have confirmed to have invited Mokwena for him to share his knowledge with the club’s coaches from Friday to Tuesday next week.
“Rulani has been invited by the KCCA FC management and this is in line with the Club’s Five Years Strategic Plan under the Key Result area 5 which is Strategic Partnerships and Alliances,” the club’s website reports.
KCCA say Sundowns first-choice goalkeeper Denis Onyango has facilitated his coach’s trip to Kampala.
“Ex-Uganda Cranes skipper Denis Onyango who is also a player at Mamelodi Sundowns FC has been a key factor in ensuring Rulani’s visit to KCCA FC comes to life. The objectives of the visit are to leverage new existing collaborations, create a competitive advantage for the club and broaden the club’s capabilities,” the website adds.
KCCA met Sundowns in the first round of the 2017 CAF Champions League when Mokwena served as Pitso Mosimane’s righthand man.
The former Orlando Pirates and Chippa United coach has since said he was looking forward to the visit.
“Humbled by the invitation. Looking forward to seeing how @KCCAFC run the club and give my small and humble opinion on how I think things could be improved. A fantastic opportunity to learn from the coaches and everybody at the club. Truly appreciate the invite,” Mokwena twitted.
The coach is part of the Sundowns’ successful coaching panel that has monopolized the DStv Premiership title, winning it five times on the bounce with telling ease.
