Gabadinho looks forward to new lease of life at AmaZulu

Orlando Pirates striker Gabadinho Mhango has given a measured comment on his impending move to AmaZulu.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic forward said he was looking forward to a new chapter at AmaZulu, following his swap deal with defender Tapeko Xoki who is moving to Pirates.

“There is change [a transfer], but it is not finalised yet. The manager is working on that. Obviously, it is good to start a new lease of life and open a new chapter,” he told Malawi FA’s Mpira TV on the sidelines of preparations for Sunday’s game against Ethiopia.

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu confirmed to the press two weeks ago that Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza had nodded to the swap between Xoki and Mhango.

The Flames player endured a torrid time in the just-ended DStv Premiership season despite having returned from the delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Cameroon in red hot form.

The former Bidvest Wits player has since downplayed what fans should expect from him as he leads the Flames in Sunday’s Group D AFCON qualifier against Ethiopia in Lilongwe.

“I know the fans were excited watching us on television at AFCON, and now is an opportunity for them to watch us at home. The game is not about Gaba but the collective as a team,” Mhango said.

Mhango scored three goals in three games for the Flames, including a potential Goal of the Tournament in the 2-1 loss to Morocco at the last AFCON edition in Cameroon.
