Orlando Pirates eye squad revamp for 2024/25 season

Orlando Pirates could make significant changes to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.

Sources close to the club suggest the management is considering a drastic reduction in squad size to improve team dynamics and on-field results.

The Buccaneers’ current roster boasts a hefty 37 players. This large number has allegedly caused difficulties for the coaching staff, hindering their ability to provide focused training and maintain optimal management.

As a result, the 1995 CAF Champions League winners are exploring a reduction in the squad size for next season.

The idea, according to sources, is to gradually streamline to a manageable number, with all competitions in mind.

THE BENEFITS OF A STREAMLINED SQUAD

If the Buccaneers go ahead with the plans, a smaller, streamlined squad promises several advantages. These benefits may include:

Improved player development: A more focused squad could allow coaches to dedicate more individual attention to players, fostering their development and ensuring consistent improvement.

Enhanced team cohesion: Fewer players could potentially lead to a stronger sense of unity, a vital element in achieving on-the-field success.

Optimised tactical flexibility: A smaller group with clearly defined roles could provide coaches with greater tactical flexibility, enhancing the team’s ability to adapt to different opponents and match situations.

Squad harmony: Reducing squad size fosters harmony and simplifies the task of keeping players happy. Each of the players knows they will likely get their chance.
