Another Eswatini Premier League match official runs for his life

Match officials had to be whisked away in yet another Eswatini Premier League match over the weekend after angry fans intended to physically assault them.

The clash was between traditional rivals Mbabane Swallows and Mbabane Highlanders in an Eswatini Premier League match at Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday.

Highlanders were leading 2-1 when Swallows scored a goal which was deemed to be offside by the referee in the dying minutes of the match.

HOW THE MBABANE DERBY FARED

Highlanders scored first in the 45th minute through Musa Dlamini, much to the jubilation from the Highlanders grandstand. Highlanders doubled the lead after 48 minutes through left back Delisa Gama.

But, Mbabane Swallows pulled one back in the 79th minute through a Felix Badenhorst free kick.

Immediately after the match, the fans stormed into the pitch attempting to beat the officials.

ESWATINI PREMIER LEAGUE TROUBLED

This is the second incident to rock the Eswatini football in recent times. A referee was nearly beaten after Mbabane Highlanders fans invaded the pitch to physically harass him in November this year.

This is after the match officials allegedly awarded a winning goal incorrectly against their opponents.

This time around more than 2000 fans were captured by Sports Updates with Phathizwe storming the pitch uncontrollably. It is also reported that a fan was stabbed in the process.

The fan was rushed to Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital where he received treatment. He was reported to be okay.

As it stands, Mbabane Highlanders are fourth on the Eswatini Premiership log standings. They are two points behind log leaders Young Buffaloes, who are on 19 points from nine matches.

Swallows on the other hand are a point below in fifth place having played a match more than their rivals.
