Broos explains why it’s unreasonable to play Tau at Bafana

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he believes it’s unreasonable to play Al Ahly attacker Percy Tau at international level at the present time.

Tau has been struggling for some game time at the Egyptian giants Al Ahly, mainly due to sustaining several injuries and a change in the coaching staff at the club after the departure of Pitso Mosimane.

Due to his absence on the field of play, Tau has been dropped from Bafana.

His last appearance for the country was on the 6th of June 2022 for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Morocco. Since then, Tau has missed four matches.

But Broos has left the door open for Tau to return to the national team setup. The Bafana coach hopes Tau stays fit and starts playing many games for the club to help boost his confidence and regain his form.

BAFANA’S DOOR STILL OPEN FOR TAU

“I know the qualities of Percy Tau. I don’t want to take him, but we’re going to help. We can’t do this at the moment,” said Broos.

“Let’s hope after the new year or maybe now in Egypt because competition is going on that he plays and be ready in March. It can be something extra for our team, certainly.”

Despite Tau being injury free now, Broos outlined his reason for omitting the attacker.

“He doesn’t have the physic for now to play those games. I said before the games we played; I pray that Percy will play in Al Ahly or whatever.

“I think if you put Percy [Tau] in this game [against Angola] he plays half an hour. He didn’t play, Percy didn’t play for four months. Then you would put him now in a game like this, it’s impossible,” Broos added.

After recovering from injury, Tau has made three appearances for the Red Devils. In all three games, he came off the bench, and the former Brighton man is yet to make any meaningful contribution for his side.

Tau will be expected to be in action on December 2nd when his side hosts Tela’ea El Gaish in a league clash.
