Pule Mmodi explains why he understands Mato Madlala’s disappointment

Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder Pule Mmodi has opened up about how his former boss at Golden Arrows, Mato Madlala, felt about his move to Amakhosi.

Mmodi secured the move to Chiefs from KZN side Golden Arrows at the beginning of the current 2023/24 season.

At the time, there were strong links of Mmodi sealing a deal with Chiefs’ arch-rivals Orlando Pirates. But the Glamour Boys won the race for the 31-year-old, who joined the club on a three-year deal.

Speaking to journalists at Naturena on Tuesday, Mmodi explained why Madlala was disappointed with him leaving the club.

HOW MATO MADLALA FELT ABOUT PULE MMODI’S MOVE TO KAIZER CHIEFS

“The chairlady of Golden Arrows loved me so much and wanted me to give something to the team going forward,” said Mmodi.

“I understand why she didn’t want me to leave the team. For me, coming here was a disappointment for her. But then life goes on as a player you have to grow.”

Mmodi also admits that the new challenge comes with huge pressure and responsibilities, and his move was not by fluke.

“Playing for Kaizer Chiefs comes with a lot of pressure because Chiefs is a big team,” added Mmodi. “As a player, if you are signed you have to give your best so that you can play. For me, being here, I think, is not a mistake. It was coach Arthur Zwane who saw me, and he spoke to me about joining the team and helping the team to go forward.”

MMODI IN PURSUIT FOR MORE GOALS AT AMAKHOSI

Having netted four goals so far in his first season at the club, Mmodi has committed to continue working hard for more and assists.

“I am trying all my best to score goals because whenever I was playing at Golden Arrows I used to score goals. I won’t stop working hard, I want to see myself getting assists to other players and scoring.

“Getting more game time is good for me. Even at Golden Arrows, I was getting more game time, and I think it’s because of hard work, nothing else.”
