Gilbert Mushangazhike on the brink of coaching milestone in Zimbabwe
Ex-Orlando Pirates forward Gilbert Mushangazhike is on the brink of a massive coaching milestone, with the Zimbabwe Northern Region first division title in sight.
Mushangazhike is fancying his chances of helping Golden Eagles gain promotion into the country’s PSL as they are embroiled in a nail-biting race for the ticket to the top-flight league.
The former Manning Rangers player has done exceptionally well since taking charge of the ambitious club, replacing Joel Luphahla, who left en route to join Highlanders as an assistant coach.
For Mushangazhike, the opportunity to steer the Golden Eagles’ ship has helped him realise his potential as the team is within touching distance of the coveted championship, with seven rounds of fixtures remaining before the curtain goes down.
The Eagles are third on the standings while Simba Bhora and Herentals Under 19 occupy first and second position, respectively.
As it stands, they have amassed [53 points] and are three behind leaders Simba Bhora, with Herentals sitting on [55 points].
On the other hand, former Bidvest Wits striker Stewart Murisa is leading Banket United, who are unfortunately in the relegation matrix, sitting on 15th place. Still, he insists his maiden season as head coach has been an eye-opener.
“This season might have been difficult, but it’s an opportunity I cherish since it’s my first season as head coach,” Murisa told FARPost.
“It’s a very important transition, and I am taking lessons with high hopes for better fortunes in the coming seasons of my career. It’s a learning curve, and I am eager to learn more.”
Murisa added: ” Of course, how this season ends matters, but I am looking at the bigger picture for both myself and the club.
“It’s a moving project, and I am satisfied with the little progress and lessons we have all received in winning and in losing.”
In this league, Mushangazhike and Murisa compete with CUMA Academy, a team owned by former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Cuthbert Malajila.
