How Amajimbos technical team plan to bring overseas players for assessment
Amajimbos assistant coach Aaron Mokoena has revealed how they plan to bring overseas players for assessment ahead of the CAF 2023 U17 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON].Â
This comes after CAF conducted the draw for the eagerly-awaited tournament on Wednesday, 1 February 2023.
The 2023 AFCON competition is due to take place from April 29 to May 19, 2023.
Duncan Crowie‘s charges are drawn in Group B alongside Nigeria, Morocco and Zambia.
This is a group many football fanatics describes as the “Group of Death”.
HOW AMAJIMBOS TECHNICAL TEAM PLANS TO BRING OVERSEAS PLAYERS
In an interview with FARPost, when the ex-Bafana Bafana skipper was asked how are they planing to bring the overseas players into the squad, Mokoena said: “Look, in our team we want to call the best of South African U17s.”
“The players that have the potential to represent and do well for the country.
“We have actually opened the door for such players. We have a camp on the fifth February until the eighth 2023.
“It’s going to be a camp where we going to give out other players a chance to come so we can have a look at them.”
AMAJIMBOS TECHNICAL TEAM WANTS A HEALTHY TEAM SELECTION HEADACHE
The 42-year-old mentor further stated how they want a healthy team selection headache from a pool of the players they would called up across the globe prior to the competition.
“We are in a development stage, and we want to have more players with quality that will give us a healthy headache when it comes to selection,” he added.
“It would be nice to have overseas based players. We still looking at them and the tournament is only in April, and we would love to have the best of South Africa’s U17s.”
