Jessica Motaung on why Kaizer Chiefs chose to reunite with Kappa

Jessica Motaung expressed her excitement about the reunion of Kaizer Chiefs and Kappa to the media earlier this week on the sidelines of Patrice Motsepe’s post-Qatar address in Sandton, Johannesburg.

In November, Chiefs announced their reunion with the Italian sportswear brand, Kappa, as their new kit sponsor for the next five years, starting from the 2023/24 season.

The new partnership with Kappa means Chiefs will end their 20-year spell with their current kit sponsor Nike at the end of the season.

Earlier this week in Sandton, Motaung spoke with enthusiasm and elation about Amakhosi’s reunion with Kappa.

The Chiefs marketing director believes the new partnership with Kappa will spark new adventures for the Soweto Giants.

JESSICA MOTAUNG SPEAKS ON CHIEFS REUNION WITH KAPPA

“The reunification of Kappa and Chiefs is going to be amazing, I am so excited about it. And just how we have worked together and what we are doing together is amazing,” said Motaung.

“And I think our supporters are in for a treat, and I’m just excited about the next five to seven years of what we are going to do.

Motaung also talked about why Chiefs chose Kappa amidst all the other bidders that were involved in the bidding.

“There were other bidders for it, and I think for me it was the history, what we stood for and what we stood for, and just a whole lot of factors,” she said.

“And just Kappa’s approach to the deal, a very unique approach I can say, at a commercial a level and also at a club level.”

“They understood where the club came from, they understood the history of the club, the heritage of the club, the type of players we have had, where we are going.

“And just structuring it in a way that changes kit deals, many people don’t understand, it will change the way kit deals are done.

“And allowing the club to generate the kind of revenue that clubs must generate, and allowing us to market their brand and our brands in way that changes how kit deals are done, is very exciting,” said Motaung.

WHAT KAPPA BRINGS

The Chiefs marketing director also talked about the nostalgia that Kappa brings from the glory days of Chiefs in the 80’s and early 90’s.

“The nostalgia with Kappa was important for us, while we might have had a strong relationship with Nike and we have had amazing times with Nike.

“But we knew the nostalgia with Kappa was amazing and what we achieved with Kappa was incredible.

“And we are looking forward for there to be a revival, and at the same time, our renewal that will take us to the next level,” concluded Motaung.
