AmaTuks miss opportunity to overtake Magesi FC in title race
AmaTuks have missed the opportunity to overtake Magesi FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship title race to the DStv Premiership.
The University of Pretoria suffered a 2-0 defeat against Maritzburg United at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Tuesday night.
The loss against Maritzburg ended Tuks’ 11-match unbeaten run in the Motsepe Foundation. Before losing to the Team of Choice, they last tasted defeat in November 2023 against Upington City FC.
The Tlisane Motaung-coached team won 12 games in the league this season, drew eight, and lost four times. They are sitting second on the league table with 44 in 24 games.
AmaTuks had a chance to leapfrog Magesi who dropped points after playing to a 2-2 draw against Hungry Lions at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Magesi maintained their advantage at the summit of the log standings with 46 six points and they are two points away from Tuks.
JDR STARS CLAIM IMPRESSIVE WIN AGAINST BLACK LEOPARDS
Elsewhere, JDR Stars claimed an impressive 2-1 victory against Black Leopards at Soshanguve’s Giant Stadium to move third on the log. Stars have collected 37 points after winning 10 games, drawing seven, and losing on seven occasions.
Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants failed to collect maximum points against Milford FC, another relegation-threatened club, after playing to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday at Princess Magogo Stadium.
Gallants are rooted at the basement of the table in the second tier with 21 points, while Milford is sitting in 14th spot with 24 points.
In addition, Baroka FC shared the spoils with NB La Masia in a goalless draw at Dobsonville Stadium. This is Bakgakga’s second successive stalemate after playing to a 0-0 against Black Leopards in the Limpopo derby last weekend.
