Mamelodi Sundowns, Marumo Gallants CAF group stage opponents revealed
Mamelodi Sundowns have discovered their opponents for the 2022/23 CAF Champions League group stage after the draw was conducted in Cairo, Egypt on Monday afternoon.
In addition, Marumo Gallants‘ CAF Confederations Cup group has also been revealed.
Sundowns and Gallants are the only South African representatives in the CAF interclub competitions after their success in the preliminary rounds.
It is the first time for Gallants participating in the group stages and a second year running in the tournament.
Gallants were drawn in Group A alongside USMA of Algeria, Al Akhder of Libya as well as FC St. Eloi Lupopo from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Meanwhile, Sundowns, who are the 2016 Champions League title holders are in Group B with Al Ahly (Egypt), Al Hilal (Sudan) and Coton Sport (Cameroon).
The Tshwane giants, who have signed several top stars such as Bongani Zungu, Marcelo Allende and Abubeker Nassir will be looking to go all the way to the final after getting shocked by Angolan side Petro de Luanda in the quarter-final last campaign.
The first matches for the Champions League group matches will take place from 10 February until 1 April 2023.
The Confederations Cup will commence on 12 February until 2 April 2023.
The top two team from each group of the Champions League and Confed Cup will qualify for the quarter-finals.

GROUP B: Asec Mimosas (Côte d’Ivoire), Diables Noirs (Congo), Rivers United (Nigeria), DC Motema Pembe (DR Congo).
GROUP C: Pyramids FC (Egypt), ASKO de Kara (Togo), Future FC (Egypt) , ASFAR Club (Morocco).
AND GROUP D: TP Mazembe (DR Congo), US Monastir (Tunisia), Young Africans (Tanzania), AS Real Bamako (Mali).
