Judas Moseamedi opens up about the nickname ‘Chiefs slayer’

Maritzburg United striker Judas Moseamedi, known for his knack for scoring against Kaizer Chiefs, has shed some light on his nickname, ‘Chiefs slayer’.

In the past few seasons, Moseamedi emerged as a thorn in the side of Chiefs. His clinical finishing in front of the goal caused all sorts of problems for the Amakhosi defence.

This dominance was particularly evident during his first stint with Maritzburg United. The period stretched from the 2018/19 season to the 2020/21 campaign, coinciding with The Team of Choice’s participation in the DStv Premiership.

Across all competitions, Moseamedi has amassed an impressive five goals in just seven matches against Chiefs for Maritzburg United.

In the colours of Stellenbosch FC and now-defunct Mpumalanga Black Aces, Moseamedi managed to grab an assist against The Glamour Boys. Then, during his time at Cape Town City FC, the ‘Tzaneen Express’ scored one goal against Chiefs.

JUDAS MOSEAMEDI ON BEING CALLED ‘CHIEFS SLAYER’

The 30-year-old forward says he didn’t need to be motivated to impress when he played against Amakhosi, as they are one of the big teams he grew up watching.

He further admitted that it was his dream to play for one of the big teams in the PSL. These are Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I grew up watching this team [Kaizer Chiefs] making people happy,” Moseamedi told FARPost. “And also it was my dream to play for one of the them [big teams] one day.

“When I played them [Chiefs], you never thought of ways to be motivated because playing against them should motivate you on its own. So when I played Chiefs, that always gave me an upper hand to say that ‘I have to work extra hard to leave a mark there’. And luckily, through the hard work I did, it happened that I was a nightmare to them [scoring goals]”
