Why PSL legend Tico-Tico Bucuane is not keen on pursuing coaching

PSL legend Tico-Tico Bucuane has explained why he is not keen on coaching professionally and revealed his biggest passion.

The former Orlando Pirates and Jomo Cosmos striker retired from football in 2011 and is now living in his native country of Mozambique.

He has been involved in football development, including as an ambassador of the COSAFA Cup. While most football players take the route of coaching after their playing careers, Bucuane has told FARPost that he is not eager to coach at a professional level because he is more passionate about youth development.

WHY COACHING PROFESSIONALLY IS NOT ON THE CARDS FOR TICO-TICO BUCUANE

“No, no, no [he laughs]. That’s not for me. My passion is the youth; that’s my biggest passion,” he said.

“I know in Mozambique we don’t invest a lot in youth development, and a lot of players grow up without having a proper coaching education, and they struggle. So that’s where I think I can have an impact.

“When they are starting [to play], give them all the tools that they need. Trapping, passing, dribbling and a lot of skills that they need to survive when they grow up which is mostly neglected in Mozambique,” added the 50-year-old.

“That’s where I am working mostly, just in the beginning. Giving them those tools for them to thrive in a professional game.”

“I am running a soccer school here. That’s what keeps me busy most of the time. Just passing the experience to the new generation. Not really an academy, I call it a school because an academy is more serious. This is more like a social integration where they learn the first steps of football. We cater for education as well.
