Casric Stars parts ways with ex-Maritzburg defender

Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Casric Stars have confirmed their divorce with a former Maritzburg United defender.

The Mpumalanga-based club who almost won the promotion ticket to the DStv Premiership last season, have been a pale shadow of themselves.

At the moment, they are in position eight in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, with 35 points on their tally. Casric are 11 points behind pacesetters Magesi FC who have 46 points after 24 rounds of matches.

As they battle for a respectable finish in the second-tier league, they have parted ways with right-back Lungelo Bhengu.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit confirmed the termination of Bhengu’s contract via a statement seen by FARPost.

“In the circumstances, please be advised that the club has accepted your client’s termination of his employment contract. Though it is not necessary for the club to accept to do so. Alternatively, the club hereby terminates your client’s employment contract on the basis of the charges that your client pleaded guilty to.

“And more so being dishonest and committed insubordination by disrespecting the club management to which your client pleaded guilty in writing.

“Further and alternatively, your client’s conduct of requesting the release of his clearance certificate on 15 March 2024 while his employment contract was still effective amounts to a repudiation of the employment contract. And the club hereby accept the repudiation and cancels the employment contract.

“In this regard, the club reserves its right to recover contractual and or delictual damages against your client. Your client’s clearance certificate is available, and your client can collect it at our office upon a scheduled arrangement. The club’s rights are strictly reserved,” reads the letter.

Bhengu had signed a short-term deal until the end of the season with the second-tier league team. That was after he left Team of Choice at the end of last season when they were relegated to the championship.

The defender rose through the ranks from Kaizer Chiefs youth academy between 2015 and 2018. From there, he joined Highlands Park FC, where he played for the team’s reserve team.
