More than just goals? PSL striker Rodney Ramagalela eyes new challenge

While veteran PSL striker Rodney Ramagalela has confirmed that he has not retired from football, he has also hinted at what he seeks to pursue next.

Ramagalela has been without a club since parting ways with Motsepe Foundation Championship side University of Pretoria at the end of last season.

The 2017/18 DStv Premiership joint top goal scorer, alongside Percy Tau, has also played for Black Leopards, Polokwane City FC, Highlands Park, and Golden Arrows. He won the League title with Mamelodi Sundowns under the guidance of coach Pitso Mosimane in the 2013/2014 season.

At the age of 35, Ramagalela recently recovered from an injury but has been training alone at home. While the search for a new team continues, Ramagalela has hinted at the prospect of venturing into coaching in the future.

“I would really love to be in a development coaching structure,” he told FARPost. “Especially working closely with your forward players, the strikers. So that they can learn how to put the ball inside the net when they are still young.

“That’s definitely a role that I would love to take in football. As you know we are having that crisis of scoring goals. I would really love to work closely with the strikers and try to help.

“That has been a challenge for many years and still going on even today. But I believe it can make a difference to have former players helping in that department.”

FORMER PSL PLAYER KEEPING FIT AT HOME WHILE SEARCH FOR A NEW TEAM CONTINUES

While it has been a while since Ramagalela played competitive football, the striker says he has been keeping fit at home.

“I do play some football where I am now. It’s not enough but I believe that’s the only way to keep myself fit. Doing the conditioning training that I know with the equipment that I have. So I believe that’s enough where I am now.”
