Sundowns’ Malebogo Modise’s impressive loan spell fuels ambitious goal

Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Malebogo Modise is setting his sights on a significant target following a successful loan spell with Chippa United.

Modise, currently on loan from DStv Premiership champions Sundowns, has turned heads at Chippa with his impressive performances also fueling speculation about his future.

The talented Sundowns left-back has spent the past few seasons on loan in the PSL. Since his promotion to the Sundowns senior team in 2020 after catching the eye in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC], Modise has yet to make a first-team appearance in the top-flight.

However, his stint in the colours of Chippa has fueled Modise’s ambition to finally break into the Sundowns’ first team.

Modise joined the Chilli Boys just after the start of the current campaign in September 2023. He has previously played for teams like Maritzburg United and JDR Stars, and last season, he played for All Stars FC in the second-tier league.

Upon his arrival at the Gqeberha-based outfit, he struggled for game time missing three matches, before becoming one of the key players in the team.

So far, the former SA Under-20 international has made 15 appearances in all competitions and provided two assists at left-back. For his performances on the pitch, he has won three Man of the Match awards this season.

WHAT IS MALEBOGO MODISE’S TARGET AFTER THE CHIPPA UNITED LOAN DEAL?

After his recent performances, the 25-year-old wants to return to his parent club and fight for his place when his loan deal expires at the end of the season.

However, it’s going to be an uphill task for him due to stiff competition at Sundowns in his position. At left-back, Masandawana have players like Divine Lunga, Terrence Mashego and Aubrey Modiba.

“It’s been great, and I’ve been performing well in the recent matches. For me, I will say it’s all about confidence. I need to always be consistent,” Modise told FARPost.

“[My performances], maybe they will see me go back to my parent club and showcase what I can do and what I’m capable of. I will try to fight for my position there.

“But for now I’m at Chippa United, I’m not focused on that [moving back to Sundowns]. I will try to do my best and help the team win matches and I will see the rest when the season ends.”
