Update on Sibusiso Vilakazi’s future at Sekhukhune United

Sibusiso Vilakazi is among the players who will be out of contract at Sekhukhune United in June and here is an update on the future of the attacking midfielder.

‘Vila’ joined the Babina Noko in March last year as a free agent after he had left TS Galaxy in the January transfer window of the 2022/23 campaign.

This was after a reported fallout with coach Sead Ramovic, who went on to say Vilakazi wasn’t giving his all.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns man was clubless for only one month and signed for Sekhukhune in March during Brandon Truter’s tenure. He was said to have put pen to paper on a four-month deal with an option to extend for a further year.

Vilakazi was part of the team that played in the 2023 Nedbank Cup final with Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The club exercised the one-year option prior to the start of the current season.

News coming from those within the walls at Sekhukhune suggests that Vilakazi’s future at the club is hanging by a thread.

There’s a strong possibility that he could be in the mix of mass player exodus that is said to be on the horizon at the club.

Meanwhile, his agent, Mike Makaab, said, “We have not had in-depth discussions [with Sekhukhune] yet, hope to do so ASAP” when contacted by FARPost.

The 34-year-old hasn’t been a regular feature for the Limpopo outfit, especially after the departure of Brandon Truter who was sacked in November.

The 2013/2014 PSL Footballer of the Season last played the league match in October last year. He has taken part in the CAF Confederation Cup knockout stages this year.

This season, Vilakazi has played 13 matches in all competitions. In total, he has played 22 matches, scoring two goals, during his time with the club.
