Todd Boehly explains why Potter is the right man for the Chelsea job

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has explained why Graham Potter is the right man for the club’s managerial role after the departure of Thomas Tuchel.

Potter penned a five-year deal from Brighton & Hove Albion and the Blues in a statement described him as an exciting coach in the game and “will bring his progressive football and innovative coaching to the club.”

Chelsea went on to hail that the 47-year-old’s forward-thinking approach and the club believes he will develop attacking and winning football.

Potter led Brighton to their highest ever Premier League finish last campaign while developing a winning brand of football at the club with his flexibility in tactics formations.

WHAT POTTER BRINGS TO CHELSEA

“We are thrilled to bring Graham to Chelsea. He is a proven coach and an innovator in the Premier League who fits our vision for the club,” said Boehly.

“Not only is he extremely talented on the pitch, he has skills and capabilities that extend beyond the pitch which will make Chelsea a more successful Club. He has had a major impact at his previous clubs and we look forward to his positive impact at Chelsea.

“We look forward to supporting him, his coaching team and the squad in realising their full potential in the coming months and years,” added the Chelsea chairman.

Meanwhile, Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano, who are co-controlling owners at Chelsea said that Potter is more like a “football innovator and winner on the pitch and a leader off the pitch”.

The duo revealed that Potter impressed them with his approach and ideas. “We are thrilled to partner with Graham to build a winning team, one that embodies the culture of collaboration, innovation, teamwork, player development.

“And a commitment to excellence on and off the pitch. We are fortunate to have Graham and his team as our partners in that journey,” they said.

Potter will take charge of Chelsea when they tackle Fulham on Saturday afternoon in a league game.
