Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has hinted at the possible future of defender Thabo Moloisane, who has a season remaining on his contract at the club.
The 26-year-old joined the club from Maritzburg United [now known as Durban City FC] in 2023. He has since established himself as a regular starter and a key player at the club.
He received his first Bafana Bafana call-up under Hugo Broos in March 2025 and made his official debut during the international friendly against Tanzania in June.
Moloisane was also nominated for the Betway Premiership Defender of the Season award but lost out to Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi. There have also been talks of interest from the big three clubs in Gauteng.
THABO MOLISANE HAILED FOR HIS ATTITUDE BY STEVE BARKER
But speaking after the 2-0 win against Sekhukhune United in the first-leg of the MTN8 semi-final on Saturday, Barker hailed Moloisane for his attitude and character.
“I think it’s more down to him [Moloisane] as a person and character,” Barker told Journalists.
STELLENBOSCH FC WORKING HARD TO KEEP BAFANA BAFANA DEFENDER
“I still think Thabo is in his last year. You know it’s not like he wants to be leaving. He actually would like to sort of continue,” added Barker.
“So I think it’s something [contract] that we are working on. But I think of him as a person and a character. I just have respect for a player that might be leaving and still putting in the shifts that he has and has played in every single game and every single minute.
“For me, he should have been the Defender of the Season last year. I felt he was a bit unlucky not to get that. But again he has once again shown his quality against Sekhukhune, so well done to him.”
