Talking points as Chiefs and TS Galaxy settle for a draw in Polokwane

Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy settled for a 2-2 draw in a DStv Premiership clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Tuesday night.

Chiefs came into this game as wounded tigers, having suffered a 5-1 defeat against league champions Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium last week Thursday evening,

Below are the talking points from this encounter.

GIVEN MSIMANGO SUSPENDED FOR TONIGHT’S GAME

Amakhosi were without one of their key players, Given Msimango, who received a straight red card for a professional foul against Bafana Ba Style last Thursday. The 19th-minute red card forced Chiefs to play most of the game with one man down.

Meanwhile, TS Galaxy were also without the services of midfielder Orebotse Mongae, who also received a red card against Sundowns about a week ago.

Mongae was given a straight red card for his dangerous challenge on Bongani Zungu in the 85th minute. Zungu had to be replaced a few minutes after he was introduced in the second due to that tackle.

KAIZER CHIEFS NOT CLINICAL

Despite finding the back of the net twice, the Soweto giants were not clinical in front of goal, missing some of the clear-cut chances.

The visitors looked to be the brighter team most of the night, as the home side sometimes gave the ball away cheaply.

The Glamour Boys needed a bit of magic to shake things up and take command of the showdown; that’s when they managed to find the back of the net.

FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS PLAYERS IN THE TS GALAXY MATCHDAY SQUAD

The Rockets came into this tie with a number of players who previously played for Chiefs and could count on their experience and information about the Soweto giants.

The players in question included Samir Nurković and Amakhosi’s development products Thato Khiba and Puso Dithejane. However, veteran striker Bernard Parker was not in the matchday squad.

EDMILSON DOVE SENT OFF

Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove was sent off in the 45th minute of the showpiece after receiving a second yellow card. Amakhosi were forced to play the entire second half with a one-man down.

GOAL SCORERS

The Cavin Johnson-coached side was the first one to break the deadlock in the 18th minute of the contest through Ranga Chivaviro.

Unfortunately, Chiefs’ lead was cancelled by a goal from Siphiwe Mahlangu, who scored from a spot kick in the 32nd minute.

Chivaviro completed his brace in the 50th minute of the game to give Chiefs another lead. However, Mahlangu once again cancelled Chiefs’ lead in the 75th minute to complete his brace too.

OTHER RESULTS

In other league fixtures, SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United played out to a 1-1 draw at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

On the other hand, Cape Town City FC defeated Moroka Swallows 2-0 at home.
