Koeman to succeed Van Gaal after Qatar World Cup

Ronald Koeman will succeed Louis Van Gaal as Netherlands head coach after the 2022 Fifa World Cup due to take place in Qatar later this year.

This comes after Van Gaal revealed that he is receiving treatment for prostate cancer on Sunday.

Koeman, who Barcelona sacked in October 2021, will officially begin his duties as the Dutch mentor from January 1, 2023.

Van Gaal, 70, believes the 59-year-old will be a suitable successor due to his experience.

“I’m proud to share that after the World Cup, I will once again fulfil the role of national coach,” said Koeman.

“Very much looking forward to this new challenge and achieving new successes together.”

Koeman was in charge of the Dutch national side between 2018 and 2020.
