Abdi Banda on header hands Daine Klate first win
Tanzania international Abdi Banda got his first goal for Chippa United, handing Daine Klate his first win as head coach as they beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 in a DStv Premiership encounter.
Banda rose above the Pirates’ defence to nod home via a header after a corner kick with just five minutes to go.
It was Klate’s return to Orlando Stadium, where he achieved much success with the Buccaneers.
Coming into the game, he was yet to taste a win as a coach since taking over from demoted Kurt Lentjies.
For the greater part of the game, it looked like it would end in a stalemate as the hosts struggled to get a goal despite creating several chances.
The Chilli Boys, on the other hand, sat back, absorbing the pressure for much of the game.
In the 85th minute, the Eastern Cape side won a corner kick, which was well flighted into the box.
The former Highlands Park and Baroka defender rose above every to plant the ball behind the reach of Richard Ofori.
The result means Orlando Pirates have won one, lost once and drew once in their opening three games of the season.

Richards Bay beat Sekhukhune 1-0, with AmaZulu emerging 2-1 victors over Cape Town City. Maritzburg United played a goalless draw against Swallows.
