AmaZulu boss says Truter asked to resign
AmaZulu chairperson Sandile Zungu insists he did not sack Brandon Truter, but rather the coach opted to resign.
Zungu said this on Ukhozi FM show on Thursday afternoon, a few hours after Usuthu confirmed to have parted ways with the coach.
“I received a call from coach Brandon Truter at around 21:00 [pm] last night. He told me that despite our support for him, he would like to resign,” he said.
“He was not pushed to resign. We still wanted him to continue because we believed in him.”
MIGHT RETURN IN FUTURE
The club boss said there was a possibility of working with the former Swallows coach mentor again.
“We hope one day we will meet again. Don’t be surprised if he makes a comeback to Usuthu one day. We enjoyed working with him,” Zungu added.
Truter’s exit from Usuthu has seen some quarters linking former Maritzburg gaffer Ernest Middendorp being linked with the vacant post.
However, Zungu insists that they have not chosen Truter’s successor.
NOT EYEING MIDDENDORP
“We haven’t decided on the next coach. We should finalize the deal either tomorrow or next week, but we are not speaking with Ernst Middendorp,” he said.
Truter had come under pressure after posting seven wins, seven draws and five losses across all competitions.
The last straw was the 1-0 loss to Richard Bay on Wednesday.
Truter came to AmaZulu last season to fill the void created by the removal of Benni McCarthy.
He steadied the ship and was rewarded with a permanent contract.
AmaZulu also ensures the signing of high-profile players such as Gabadinho Mhango.
The Malawian has established himself as Usuthu’s focal point of attack and has scored four goals in all competitions this season.
The former Orlando Pirates forward scored when AmaZulu drew 1-1 with Kaizer Chiefs late last week, but he was shown a red card after he was substituted.
