Ambina misses cut for Cameroon friendlies
Cape Town City midfielder Brice Ambina has missed the cut for Cameroon’s final 26 for their September pre-FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 friendlies against Uzbekistan and South Korea.
FECAFOOT on Monday released Cameroon coach Rigobert Song’s final list for next week’s friendly trip to the Far East.
The 20-year-old Ambina was in Song’s preliminary 36-man team unveiled a fortnight ago for the two friendly matches that will be played in South Korea.
Had Ambina made the final 26, the Cape Town City FC midfielder would have been in line for his Indomitable Lions debut.
Ambina is capped at junior level and was part of Cameroon’s team for the 2021 U20 AFCON in Mauritania, where the team reached the quarterfinals.
Not making the cut
Also not making the cut are Coton Sport forward Patient Wassou and Canon Yaoundé goalkeeper James Djaoyang, two home-based players on the provisional list.
Wassou and Djaoyang were part of Cameroon‘s recent successful qualification to the 2023 CHAN that Algeria will host in January.
Cameroon kicks off their September friendly itinerary against Uzbekistan on September 23 in the northern South Korean town of Goyang.
The Indomitable Lions will then travel back to Seoul to play South Korea on September 27 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Meanwhile, Cameroon is in Group G at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and is drawn against Switzerland, Serbia, and five-time World champions Brazil.
Cameroon will commence their Group G campaign on November 24 against Switzerland.
Ambina has started the season well for Eric Tinkler’s Cape Town City and is seen as one of the club’s future talents.
He is in his second season with the Capetonians and is expected to feature in their CAF Champions League games this season.
