Arendse takes dig at Chiefs ahead of AmaZulu clash 

Tyren Arendse has taken a dig at Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the MTN8 semi-final first leg against AmaZulu on Sunday at the FNB Stadium [15:30].

The ex-Orlando Pirates and Santos midfielder reckons Amakhosi didn’t deserve to win their quarter-final clash against Stellenbosch FC at Danie Craven Stadium last month.

Arendse insists that the Soweto giants’ performance on the day was below par and was looking to get more from them despite their 4-3 win on penalties after a 1-all draw in regulation time. 

More for Arendse means better decisions, fewer mistakes, and above all more goals.

ARENDSE SPEAKS…

“I watched their game against Stellenbosch in the quarterfinals. To be honest with you, I think Chiefs were lucky to win that game because the way Stellies played really deserved to win that game,” he told FARPost.

“They didn’t deserve to win that game, obviously when it comes to penalties is a lottery and because they had [Itumeleng] Khune back between the sticks.

“I think he basically saved them. Hopefully, he will reciprocate the same form against AmaZulu.

“Chiefs have been struggling in the league, whereas AmaZulu started the league well but dropped the ball in their last two games.

“So, it’s difficult to say but I think Chiefs supporters would want this cup game to give them the springboard to start doing well in the league.

“I also like the way AmaZulu play, I think the coach knows what he wants and if only they could get their early season form they could win the match.”

Shifting the focus to his former clubs [Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns] clash, Arendse is anticipating a “tight affair” given both sides’ current in-form.

WHAT THE FORMER PLAYER THINKS

“I think they are one of the in-form teams in the league. They play exciting football, although Sundowns started slowly, but now new signings are gelling together,” he added.

“Pirates’ new coach has established a new style of play and the team shows improvements in each game.

“And their top players are back with the team [Thembinkosi Lorch and Vincent Pule] as they spent most of the last season nursing injuries.

“It’s going to be an interesting game and I don’t want to be that guy who put the money on that game because it’s going to be a tight affair.”

Arendse is part of the MTN8 legends alongside Josta Dladla, Lucky Lekgwathi, Fabian McCarthy, Hlompho Kekana, Morgan Gould, Njabulo Manqana and Brilliant Khuzwayo.
