Banyana Banyana continued with their fine form in the TotalEnergies Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) group stage with a 3-1 win over Burundi at Prince Heritier Moulay Al Hassan stadium on Thursday evening.
The victory saw South Africa cruise their way into the quarterfinals of the the tournament with a game to spare.
Thanks to goals by Thembi Kgatlana, Amogelang Motau and Linda Motlhalo.
Aniella Awimana scored the consolation goal for debutants Burundi.
Desiree Ellis’ charges should have won the showpiece by a higher margin, given the number of chances they wasted in the final third.
Banyana will play their final group stage encounter against neighbours Botswana on Sunday, 10 July 2022.
