Cape Town City’s opponents from Congo name strong squad
Cape Town City‘s opponents from Congo have named a strong 19-member squad for Saturday’s CAF Champions League preliminary round match.
AS Otoho have named quality players such as Moueta Alexander, Obembi Ravelli, Fred Nkata, Christ Bimbabou, Brill Ibara and Faria Ondongo in the squad.
The Congolese side departed for South Africa on Wednesday ahead of the preliminary round first-leg match scheduled for Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.
The team’s head coach Julien Mette has named the final squad following the assessment he made during recent two practice matches back home in Congo.
City publicist Julian Bailey recently said they had done some research on their opponents and now realise that apart from the technical point of view, they also need to get ready logistically.
“Of course, it is a difficult place to get to from South Africa, so we will have to fly probably via Ethiopia. We have done a bit of research. There will be a bus drive from the airport to get to the town, it would probably take some three to four hours,” he said.
AS Otoho last came to South Africa in 2019 to play against Mamelodi Sundowns in the preliminary round of the similar competition.
The Congolese side lost 4-0 to Sundowns to overturn the 2-1 defeat they suffered in Congo in the first leg.
The overall winner between Cape Town City and AS Ohoto will date either Black Bulls of Mozambique or Petro Atletico from Angola in the first round.
Other notable fixtures in the Champions League feature Zamalek versus Elect-Sport from Chad, Tanzania’s Simba take on Malawi champions Nyasa Bullets.
First round games will take place at home on the weekend of September 9 then away on the weekend of 16 2022.
This will be followed by the second round scheduled for the weekend of October 7 at home and October 14 in the reverse fixture.
Wydad Casablanca of Morocco are the defending champions of the continental league title.
