City confirm the signing of experienced defender

Cape Town City have bolstered their squad with a signing of a well-travelled defender ahead of the new season.

The Citizens are about to embark on their CAF Champions League journey after finishing second in the DStv Premiership last season.

They have now announced the signing of Marc van Heerden from neighbours Stellenbosch.

“Very excited to have gotten the call from Eric (Tinkler) and John (Comitis) to join the club,” said Van Heerden following his unveiling on Wednesday.

“City is a big club, and they want to be challenging for everything, which is exciting. The first two weeks or so have been very good.

“Very intense, and you can see the intention from the club, the players, the coaching staff and everybody involved. They are serious about what they want to achieve, and yah, let’s go and do whatever we can,” he said.

The 34-year-old has played for clubs such as Pretoria University, AmaZulu, Chippa United, Orlando Pirates and Stellies.
