Copperbelt crowned Sasol League National Champs winners 

Copperbelt Ladies won the 2022 Sasol League National Championships title on Sunday as they beat Tuks Ladies 3-2 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. 

The game ended 1-1 in regulation time. 

Despite all the challenges they went through to reach the national playoffs, the Limpopo side responded by winning all their matches in the tournament. 

Sinamile Mkhwanazi broke the deadlock for the Gauteng club just before the halftime. 

However, the hosts came back stronger in the second stanza as they found an equaliser through Betty Mallela’s an own goal which led to the game to the penalty shootouts. 

Copperbelt walked away with the R200 000 prize money, whereas Tuks pocketed R100 000.

The two teams will now compete in the Hollywoodbets Super League as they finished as the top two finalists in the  competition.

Meanwhile, Tuks shot-stopper Sindisiwe Duma received the Goalkeeper of the Tournament accolade. 

Whereas, Nonjabulo Ndela and Nomthetho Mbatsha named Referee and assistant Referee of the Tournament winners respectively. 

Before the final game, Copperbelt head coach had stated that many phad written their obituary as they were the underdogs. 

“We are very happy to have got a promotion. Some people had already
written our obituary,” coach Karabo Selabe told journalists in Polokwane.

“But I believed that these girls are hard workers that’s why we managed to overcome everything here.

“The work is not over as yet because we have a final to play on Sunday so we can win the prize money.  

“As I can check, I’m the youngest coach in this tournament. I can’t even express myself because I’m over the moon because of the excitement.”
