Dan Malesela shares Marumo Gallants dilemma after Maritzburg defeat

Marumo Gallants coach Dan Malesela has opened up on his dilemma at the Limpopo side as he tries to steer them away from the relegation zone.

‘Dan Dance’ described his charges as their worst enemies following their 1-0 defeat to Maritzburg United on Saturday.

The result, which came after their derby loss to Sekhukhune United, left them perched at the basement of the DStv Premiership table.

According to Dan Malesela, the last two defeats were all down to costly mistakes at the back.

DAN MALESELA ON COSTLY MISTAKES

“We are our worst enemies, and we stab ourselves every time. In the previous game [against Sekhukhune], we made three passing errors that led to goals irrespective of how we feel about goals,” Malesela told the club’s media department.

“[Saturday] we make one passing error that results into a corner, then a goal against a team that is not threatening us, is not doing anything. They are trying to survive. We let them off the hook.”

MALESELA ON HIS PLAYERS’ PERFORMANCE

Malesela further expressed his disappointment stating that players who impressed at training failed to perform during matches.

“It’s not nice for me to speak publicly about our players, but we have to account. Some players have to account.

“We cannot have training players, those that impress at training, but when it comes to matches, they are different people.

“We’re going through a tough time, the injuries that we have, but that’s not an excuse. It’s getting tough every day,” he added.

NEXT MATCH

Up next for Gallants is a tricky away match against Stellenbosch FC, who are winless in five matches. They have registered two draws and suffered three defeats.

Gallants will be aiming to win to try to avoid three consecutive defeats. Interestingly, both sides are in the relegation zone. Stellies are 14th, and Gallants sit at the basement of the table, and the two sides are separated only by two points.
