Denis Chembezi resurfaces at Black Leopards
Motsepe Foundation Championship side Black Leopards have boosted their squad with the signing of Denis Chembezi.
The highly rated Malawian international arrived in South Africa on Thursday and trained with his new teammates in Malamulele.
The 25-year-old joins Lidoda Duvha after parting ways with their rivals Polokwane City at the end of last season.
He suffered a hamstring injury while on international duty against Guinea in June this year. An injury that kept him out of action for a while.
CHEMBEZI DITCH MALAWI MOVE
A few days ago, FARPost reported that Chembezi was in his native country and set to join a local club on a short term deal.
This is after the former SureStream Academy player decided against staying at Rise and Shine.
He spent three seasons at Polokwane City after his move in 2019. Chembezi arrived in SA alongside countryman Khuda Muyaba while City were still campaigning in the DStv Premiership.
Their first season saw the club relegated from the top division to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
After two seasons in the lower division, Chembezi left the club and was snapped up by Leopards as a free agent.
“He is joining the club on a long term deal to beef up the defence. Everyone is looking forward to having the boy in the squad,” a mole told FARPost upon enquiry of the deal.
Poor Leopards defence
Leopards defence has been poor since the beginning of the current season. They have let in 10 goals in seven matches, the third joint worst defence in the league alongside Pretoria Callies.
Platinum City Rovers (13) have the worst defensive record followed by Magesi who conceded 11 goals.
Chembezi is unlikely to feature for Leopards when they take on Magesi in yet another Limpopo derby at Malamulele Stadium on Sunday.
This publication has been informed that the club is finalizing his paperwork.
