Ex-Chiefs defender resurfaces at ABC Motsepe side
Veteran defender Punch Masenamela has resurfaced at the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League outfit, FC Sivutsa.
The former Kaizer Chiefs left-back is trying his luck with the Nkomazi-based side to secure a deal ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Masenamela made headlines when he joined Mamelodi Sundowns from the now-defunct Platinum Stars in July 2015.
The Bochum-born footballer also represented teams such as Polokwane City, Baroka FC, Baberwa and Eswatini’s Mbabane Highlanders.
He made his debut for South Africa in 2010. Overall, he has amassed seven caps for Bafana Bafana.
Even though his position [wing-back] primarily requires speed, stamina, dribbling and crossing abilities, the 35-year-old is gunning to prove that he still has a lot to offer despite his age and will be determined to help the club to challenge for promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship if it happens they sign him.
His phenomenal tactical intelligence and knowledge of the game, as well as an excellent positional sense, makes him stand out.
Given his extensive experience in the PSL, it won’t be a surprise to see him break into the limelight in the South African football third-tier.
Sivutsa finished third in Stream A of their provincial ABC League with 24 points, eight points adrift stream leaders Secunda M stars.
