Ex-Polokwane City striker Sulumba in Golden Boot control with treble

Former Polokwane City striker Muhammad Sulumba scored a treble for Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on Wednesday afternoon to seize control of Malawi league’s Golden Boot race.

Sulumba scored in the 67th, 74th and 83rd minutes to inspire Wanderers to a record 10-0 whitewash of relegation-bound Rumphi United at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

HIS TALLY

The former Rise and Shine forward took his tally to 13 goals from 23 TNM Super League games for the fourth-placed Wanderers.

Sulumba has displaced Babatunde Adepoju of Bullets and Silver Strikers’ Chawanangwa Kaonga, who led with 12 goals each.

Sulumba played a handful of games for Polokwane City in the 2018 season when he scored just twice before he was released.

Wanderers scored the other goals against Rumphi through Aubrey Maloya, Yamikani Chester (double), Matthews Masamba, Vincent Nyangulu (double), Isaac Kaliyati.

It was Wanderers’ first win in two games under the leadership of former ex-Chippa United coach Mark Harrison who is working as technical director.

The Nomads, as Wanderers are affectionately called, lie 16 points behind leaders and rivals Nyasa Big Bullets.

CHASING RECORD

The Kalisto Pasuwa-coached Bullets are chasing a record 16th league title and a fourth consecutive one for the Zimbabwean.

Each team now has an average of five games to the end of the Malawi league campaign, which runs from March to December.

The league comprises 16 teams and the bottom-three are relegated at the end of a season.
