Fans give Marumo kudos for gallant fight in Africa

Marumo Gallants fans have given the team the kudos for clinching the CAF Confederation Cup group stage berth.

Gallants beat Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli 3-0 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday and 3-1 on aggregate.

Goals from Monde Mphambaniso, Celimpilo Ngema and Ranga Chivhaviro ensured Gallants’ progression to the group phase of the second-tier continental competition.

GALLANTS CHAIRMAN PROUD OF ACHIEVEMENT

Gallants chairman Abram Sello has since saluted the team for exceeding expectations.

“I am extremely proud of the team for such a stellar win against a major continental contender such as Al Ahli Tripoli,” he said.

“I am ecstatic about the progress made so far. This team continues to exceed expectations.”

FANS FLOCK TO GALLANTS’ FACEBOOK PAGE

In reaction, fans in South Africa have flocked to the team’s Facebook page to acknowledge the achievement.

“Dan Dance, I salute lo Baba, Marumo Gallants playing good football and scoring goals,” Sbusiso Ngidi Nxumalo said.

Seremane Mash chipped in, saying: Thank you, Marumo Gallants, for disciplining these Libyans who talk too much and disrespect South African teams.”

Abuttie Mercy was predictive, saying she knew the coach Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela’s side would sail through.

“I knew from the first leg that this Al Ahli team will see flames here in South Africa,” he said.

“Marumo is one of the best-underrated teams …very stubborn.”

Lloyd Matlou felt Gallants deserved their place in the group phase after managing a goalless draw against the Libyans in the first leg.

“I’m happy that you guys are doing well. You deserve to play in the CAF competitions after knocking over and over,” he said.

Kaizer Chiefs fan Thembalethu Gqirhana Beni hailed Malisela and his men for flying the South African flag high.

“To Marumo Gallants FC for qualifying for the group stage and for representing South Africa with pride,” he said

Gallant had lost 1-0 in the away match in Libya last week before overturning the tables to sail through.

Formerly TTM, Gallants are the only remaining South African team in the Confederation Cup following the elimination of Cape Town City and Royal AM.
