Infantino was first elected FIFA President in 2016. He was re-elected in the position in 2019. According to FIFA rules, Infantino can run for a final time in 2026. This means he can stay in power for another World Cup cycle until 2031.

FIFA LEADER PLEADS FOR PEACE

Meanwhile, Infantino has made a plea to world leaders to call for ceasefire during upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

He argued leaders to begin dialogue as a first step to stop the conflict in Russia and Ukraine.

He was addressing assembled heads of state at the intergovernmental forum, which comprises of 19 countries and the European Union.

“Football is a force for good. We are not naive to believe that football can solve the world’s problems. We know that our main focus as a sports organisation is and should be sports.

But because Football Unites the World, this particular FIFA World Cup, with five billion people watching it, can be a trigger for a positive gesture, for a sign or a message of hope,” he said.
