Former Chippa United coach takes over Wanderers coaching post
Former Chippa United coach Mark Harrison has taken over the head coach post at Malawi’s Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
The Englishman has replaced Alex Ngwira who has been redeployed after being entangled in a leaked audio scandal.
Harrison was until his appointment to the new post working as Wanderers Technical Director.
Management for the seven-time TNM Super League champions has redeployed Ngwira to scouting manager role.
NGWIRA ENTANGLED IN LEAKED AUDIO SCANDAL
His demotion comes a day after he was heard accusing Harrison of meddling in player-selection in a leaked audio.
The audio has since gone viral in Malawi football circles.
Ngwira is heard saying Harrison had not stayed enough time with the team for him to be involved in player selection.
The sacked coach is also heard accusing some of the Blantyre-based team officials of misleading Harrison.
WANDERERS MUM ON COACHING PANEL RESHUFFLE
Wanderers chairperson of commercialisation drive Clement Stambuli confirmed to The Daily Times newspaper about the reshuffle of the coaching panel.
Stambuli refused to disclose the reasons behind Ngwira’s sacking.
However, he said Harrison will be in charge of the team.
Harrison, the former Zimbabwe’s Caps United and Botswana’s Township Rollers coach, joined Wanderers recently.
Ngwira has been removed from the coaching role three days after presiding over Wanderers’ 3-4 home loss to Civil Sporting in a league match.
The third consecutive defeat ended the Nomads (Wanderers) chances of a top-three league finish this season.
Wanderers took on Sable Farming on Wednesday in a dead-rubber for both teams at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township in Blantyre.
The farmers are heading for relegation whereas Wanderers are merely seeking a top-eight finish.
The Nomads are in position five lying 17 points behind rivals and defending champions Nyasa Big Bullets.
Most teams on the 16-member log table have two games to finish the season.
Bullets already sealed their record extending 16 league title and the fourth on the bounce under coach Kalisto Pasuwa.
The Zimbabwean has now won eight league titles in a row extending on the four he also claimed with Dynamos back home.
