How Daine Klate intends to use the MTN8 weekend break
Chippa United head coach Daine Klate is confident that the MTN8 weekend break will help his side to build their chemistry in order to challenge for a top-eight finish come the end of the season.
The Chilli Boys return to action against Golden Arrows on Saturday, 3 September, in the DStv Premiership clash away from home.
Chippa played out to a goalless draw with TS Galaxy in a league clash on Wednesday night at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Klate only managed to claim one victory, drew two games and lost two for the Gqeberha-based club since the start of the new campaign.
When the ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder was asked what he will be doing to better the Chilli Boys’ fortunes since they won’t be participating in the MTN8 competition this coming weekend, the 37-year-old mentor said his aim is to use the 10 days break to get his team back on track among the South African football top-flight’s elite clubs.
“Look, we are going to build the teams’ chemistry. Every coach would like to have a set of starting eleven but obviously, the games are coming thick and fast. One needs to freshen up the squad. There are injuries and suspensions, and different factors that plays a role whether the season is going to be congested,” Klate told the media.
“We going to need everybody in the squad, so we are going to go back now and we will have 10 days until the next game. I think working on the team chemistry is the most important thing.
“Also, a way of doing things. We are going to work on certain things technically. And with each game as it goes along we getting better and better. You know the defensive unit was very solid today and I thought we closed them down well and applied high press well.”
A fortnight ago, Klate stated that there are many reasons why his side is struggling to get desired results, blaming his misfiring strikers, lack of poor communication at the back and how his troops applied themselves in the field of play.
While that still might be the case, the new man in charge remains confident, citing that they will take the positives from their previous matches and return to the drawing board.
