‘I can’t be compared to Knowledge Musona’

Former Polokwane City midfielder Walter Musona has refused to be compared to his brother, Knowledge Musona, who he admits is in his own class of greatness.

The Smiling Assassin, as Knowledge Musona is fondly known, remains one of the greatest Zimbabwean marksmen to grace South Africa’s topflight, the DStv Premiership.

The former Kaizer Chiefs star was exceptional with his goalscoring prowess during his stint at the Naturena between 2009 and 2014.

His brilliance also took him to Germany, Belgium and most recently, Saudi Arabia, where he is in the books of Al Tai.

Before retiring from international early this year, the 32-year-old was captain of the Zimbabwe national team.

For the Warriors, he made 49 appearances, with 24 goals to his name in all competitions, including in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

And for Walter, his brother’s achievements are admittedly beyond his reach. The 26-year-old says he can only but take inspiration from the sterling records, which he is not competing against.

“He is my brother and he leads the way. How can we be compared? It’s clear, he is a family great and a national treasure,” he said.

“I’m inspired by him. He is our role model and we will always follow in his footsteps. At the moment, I’m focused on making myself better than before.

“This season has been a good revival for me after returning home. I’m greatful for the support and I hope to be much better next season.”

The former Sekhukune United player has been on a positive trajectory since returning to Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Musona was a vital cog in the just ended season when FC Platinum’s sealed their fourth league title on the trot.

He netted 13 goals throughout the campaign, with four goals separating him from the golden boot winner William Manondo of Caps United.

However he is the ultimate favorite to land the prestigious Soccer Star of the Year award. Voting for the season’s top performers is set for Friday.
