I was earning big but suffering – Buhle Mkhwanazi

Former Bafana Bafana and Bidvest Wits defender Buhle Mkhwanazi has revealed how he used to brag about his high salary but spiritually suffering.

Mkhwanazi spent six seasons at the now-defunct Wits side. He was part of the history-making group that won the 2016/17 PSL title.

He could not move with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila when they bought the status. This was after the Limpopo club cited high salary as the reason. The 33-year-old took to social media on Thursday to reveal how much he was earning at Wits but still suffering from within.

The defender says all he had was taken away because his soul needed to be saved.

Mkhwanazi’s contract, posted on social media, shows that from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019, he earned R195 000.00 per month. The following year, he pocketed R175 000.00 [from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020] and R 190 000.00 from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021. [Wits had already been sold during the 2020/21 season].

He reportedly also got a signing-on fee in the region of R2 million.

BUHLE MKHWANAZI OPENS UP ON EMOTIONAL WELL BEING

“I remember l used to boast about the numbers on my contract, not knowing that my soul was suffering,” he wrote on his Instagram page.

“The day Jesus Christ visited me, I never knew that all this will be taken away from me by him just for my soul to be saved.

“Today, I boast in my weaknesses but with a soul that is prospering. It is better to hear the voice of God than to be rich without knowing that your soul is in danger.

“I urge many to be rich in all things, receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal saviour, and you shall recover all one day. John 3 v 16.”

Buhle Mkhwanazi signing for SuperSport United

END OF HIS PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE CAREER?

Mkhwanazi’s last stint in the PSL was at SuperSport United during the 2021/22 season. He parted ways with the club after he opted not to take a Covid-19 jab, a policy that the club enforced on their players.

He had only featured eight times for the three-time PSL champions.
