JDR boss Nemasisi weighs on coaching qualifications issue

JDR Stars owner and coach Nnditsheni Nemasisi has encouraged South African professional coaches to get equipped with formal football education.

There have been suggestions that the coaching profession is not given the respect it deserves. This is due to people who are not qualified to take charge of PSL clubs.

Some have also called on the PSL to have a standard regulation that bars coaches without formal qualifications from sitting on the bench.

Nemasisi agrees with the call for coaches to be formally equipped but also insists education doesn’t guarantee results.

Currently, a CAF D license holder, Nemasisi has been coaching JDR since its formation in 2011.

“Of course, we need to empower ourselves as long as we are coaching in the professional league, we need to empower ourselves,” he told FARPost.

GOING FOR A C LICENSE

The 40-year-old has also confirmed that he will be enrolling in a CAF C license during the upcoming World Cup break.

“I am going to engage myself in the (CAF) C license soon. Just after our last game before the World Cup break. The good thing is that it’s coming now when you are not doing much.

“In the past, it always coincided with the league, so it’s not easy to attend those courses, but the bottom line is that let’s strengthen our knowledge in football if we want to achieve. Forget the fact that one is a Chairman, for as long as I sit in the dugout as a coach, I need to try and strengthen the knowledge,” he said.

NEMASISI HAS PROVED HIMSELF

“If you look at how JDR plays, I think I have proven to people. Competing every season with my D license. I am not saying one must end there. We need to try and do better. But sometimes the qualifications don’t matter much. If you can’t be able to identify the good talent and be able to combine the talent and make it play, sometimes it’s a problem.

“We have a lot of coaches with qualifications, but they are doing badly. Maybe it’s not their calling. They just went to school. Just like a footballer, it has to be a calling and have the right passion to engage in football matters.”
