Joel Masutha set to be appointed VFA’s new coach

FARPost has reliably been informed that Venda Football Academy (VFA) are set to appoint Joel Masutha as their new head coach.

The two parties are reportedly at an advanced stage of signing on the dotted line.

Masutha recently parted ways with Black Leopards after a fallout with the club hierarchy. He was replaced by Zimbabwean coach Rodwell Dhlakama.

JOEL MASUTHA VFA MOVE IMMINENT

If the deal is concluded at VFA, Masutha will take over from Simo Dladla, who was appointed head coach in early October.

In the five matches that he was in charge of, Dladla won one, drew one, and lost three matches.

Even before Dladla’s arrival, VFA have been struggling in their second in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

VFA POOR SEASON

They are currently second from the bottom on the log after matches. This is after securing only three wins and eight defeats.

The club has the worse goalscoring record out of the 16 teams, with only four goals in the 12 matches.

The defeats are two more than the six they suffered the whole of last season in their first season in the professional setup.

They finished fifth and missed out on an opportunity for a promotion playoff spot by only four points.

But the fortunes have changed for the club that recently announced a cash injection of over R15 million from their sponsor Salungano Group.

The club boast experienced campaigners such as Harold Ndlovu, Abdoul Cissé, Nicholas Motloung, Edmore Chirambadare, and Rhulani Manzini.

VFA’S NEXT 5 MATCHES

When they return from the FIFA World Cup break, VFA will host high-flying Casric Stars at Thohoyandou Stadium. Followed by the much anticipated Vhembe derby against Black Leopards in Malamulele.

They will take on Uthongathi in the following match and travel to Platinum City Rovers in Johannesburg before facing Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in another Vhembe derby before the end of January 2023.
