Joseph Kamwendo: I want to coach a big club such as Pirates

Former Orlando Pirates Malawian star Joseph Kamwendo has set himself an ambitious target of coaching a big club such as the Buccaneers in future.

Kamwendo said this when FARPost asked him about his ambition now that he is pursuing a CAF C Licence in Malawi.

“My aim is to coach one of the biggest teams that I played for,” he said. Asked if the biggest teams include the Buccaneers, Kamwendo replied: “Why not?”

“My focus now is to get the experience and knowledge for me to be able to. I believe it is possible with time.”

LEARNING CURVE

The former TP Mazembe player said he has a lot to learn even though he played at the highest level.

“Playing and coaching are two different things, and so far, I have learnt a lot. I believe this knowledge will help me going forward,” he said.

“You can play at the highest level, but you still need to learn every day as they say in football, we learn every day.”

The former Flames star said he was excited about undergoing the coaching course.

Kamwendo is attending the course alongside former Malawi stars such as Andrew Chikhosi, Heston Munthali, Fundi Akidu and McDonald Yobe.

The former Vasco da Gama playmaker works as an assistant coach for his childhood club Mighty Mukuru Wanderers’ youth team.

KAMWENDO AND OTHERS CHALLENGED

Football Association of Malawi President Walter Nyamilandu-Manda has since challenged Kamwendo and other participants to embrace technology.

“The world is now changing, and almost everything is going digital, and the use of computers is now mandatory in coaching,” he said.

“We understand some of the coaches are not familiar with the use of computer packages, so this is a challenge to them to learn computer usage, and we will support them.”

The former Caps United star was the first-ever foreigner to win Zimbabwe Soccer Star of the Year 2006.

His impressive showing at Caps paved the way for his dream move to Danish Super League side Nordsjaelland.

He also made history after scoring Goal of the Year 2006/7 in the Danish Super League.
