Kermit Erasmus hails Sundowns squad harmony

Kermit Erasmus has spoken of the incredible harmony in the Mamelodi Sundowns dressing room ahead of their DStv Premiership clash on Tuesday afternoon.

Sundowns sit firmly on top of the table on their way to a fifth successive league title, which will underline their dominance in the local game over the last decade.

And Erasmus, who has had stints with Orlando Pirates, SuperSport and Cape Town City, has hinted it is all down to the club’s positive atmosphere.

“Our camp is always interesting; as a player, I always look forward to it and being part of it. The brotherhood from the team is amazing; we can only go strength-to-strength from here,” he said.

“The games we’ve been playing show we’ve been sticking together and fighting for one another. We’ve been working hard and sticking as a unit; at the end of the day, the team win games, and without one another, it will be impossible. So as a collective, I think we’re much more powerful and a force to be reckoned with, so we are looking forward to the games coming up and enjoy camp as it comes.”

Of course, after the camaraderie, some hard work has to be done.

“It’s been hard work since the beginning of the season; it’s finally paying off. It’s been a great operation since the season started. The players have been doing well, and the competition is good; I guess that’s the result of the performance in recent matches. The high levels of concentration and preparation for training in preparation for the game sharpens you when you get the chance to play,” said Erasmus.

The 31-year-old forward, who has three goals to his name this season, warned his teammates about the danger posed by Arrows’ duo of Knox Mutizwa and Sbonelo Cele.

“There is Mutizwa and Cele on the left. I think our preparations have been good. We are not worried about the danger they possess but more focused on how we can capitalise on their weaknesses and how we plan for the game. We are looking forward to it; we’ll see what the game brings.”

He admitted that Abafana Bes’thende “are always a difficult team to play”, adding they play on the counter and have a quick front three or four. “It will be a tough game; if we can contain them with a front three and we put pressure on the ball and not let them have time and space to play long balls in behind, I think we get a chance to get maximum points,” Erasmus concluded. Kick-off is at 15:00 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
