Chiefs duo ruled out for Carling Black Label Cup

Kaizer Chiefs duo of Itumeleng Khune and Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana have been ruled out of the Carling Black Label Cup due to injuries.

The tournament is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 12 November, at FNB Stadium.

WHY KHUNE AND BIMENYIMANA RULED OUT

According to Amakhosi’s statement, the skipper [Khune] is being treated for a knee tendon injury that he sustained before their game with AmaZulu in the MTN8 second-leg semifinal at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys’ goal poacher Bimenyimana is out with a groin strain.

The two players were also absent for the DStv Premiership Soweto Derby clash this past Saturday when Arthur Zwane’s charges got the better of Orlando Pirates 1-0 at The Calabash.

Striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has reacted to the brace he scored for Kaizer Chiefs in the 2-1 win over SuperSport United in a DStv Premiership match on Saturday evening.

As a result, the pair have been withdrawn from the voting list with advice from the Soweto giants’ medical team.

Khune was top of the Carling Black Label Cup voting list, having accumulated almost 170 000 votes, followed by his teammate Keagan Dolly who received 65 000 votes.

The Burundian forward made history when he became the first striker to hit a hat-trick this season and the first player in PSL history to score a hat-trick from spot kicks.

Bimenyimana is currently level on goals with SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler, and Mamelodi Sundowns star forward Peter Shalulile on six goals in the South African football top flight.

“Supporters who selected the duo to start the match will be “refunded” their votes by the organisers and will be allowed to re-cast their votes for players available for team selection,” read Chief’s statement.

The third-place play-off will commence at 15:30, with the final starting at 17:00.
